Musiqa

 

Musiqa is a professional
ensemble dedicated to the
performance of contemporary
classical music.

Directed by five composers, Musiqa is a contemporary music ensemble that takes a fresh look at the concert experience by blending dance, poetry, theatre, film and the visual arts with the finest modern repertoire. Musiqa’s mission is three-fold: To establish a world-class contemporary music ensemble in Houston; to help build a community of new music listeners of all ages; and to collaborate with other modern arts organizations to create a wider context for contemporary music.

Overview

Musiqa’s programming includes a concert series at the Hobby Center’s Zilkha Hall, a concert series at the Contemporary Arts Museum and educational programming featuring “Around the World with Musiqa”. Winner of 2008 and 2009 Access to Artistic Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, "Around the World with Musiqa" is the nationally acclaimed interactive, multi-media program that has been performed for over 20,000 public school students in the past six years.

Musiqa's programs have been recognized by awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Aaron Copland Fund, the Argosy Foundation, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Houston Arts Alliance, JPMorgan Chase, The Simmons Foundation, and numerous other foundation, individual and corporate sponsors. They have been featured on National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" and KUHF’s “Frontrow.”
