About Sensory Inclusive Performances

Sensory-inclusive performances are designed to create a welcoming and supportive environment for families with members on the autism spectrum and others with sensory sensitivities. Accommodations are made to allow for a more relaxed and comfortable experience.

Upcoming Sensory Friendly Performances:

• Disney’s The Lion King, Saturday, July 27 at 2 p.m.

House rules are relaxed and include accommodations such as:

• Limited crowds during the time of the performance
• Patrons are free to get up, move around or leave at any time
• iPads and other electronics for therapeutic use are allowed
• House Lights will remain on at low level during performance
• Reduction of strobe lighting or lights focused on the audience
• Sudden loud sounds or startling moments may be signaled in advance
• Entering and exiting the theatre will be allowed throughout the performance
• Designated quiet and activity areas are provided in the lobbies
• Lobby monitor to allow patrons to continue watching the performance
• Trained volunteers on hand to assist with patron needs and requests
• Social Story and other materials provided as preparation for a visit to the theatre

Previsit Materials

Hobby Center Social Story

A social story titled “I’m Going to the Theatre” is available to help prepare for attending a performance at the Hobby Center. Social stories for specific productions will be made available at least two weeks prior to the performance.

Special Preshow Visit

A preshow visit and tour of the theatre can be arranged in the weeks prior to a performance you will be attending. You can walk through the lobbies and audience chamber, find your seat location and familiarize yourself with the location of restrooms, concessions and other facilities.
